Coon Valley favorite

Where to begin...migration has been killer the past few days! I birded Capitol square to find all sorts of incredible fallout Weds: ovenbird, prothonotary warbler, Lincoln's sparrow, Savannah sparrow, scarlet tanager, rose-breasted grosbeaks, blue-winged warbler, golden-winged warbler, clay-colored sparrow...there just weren't even words to describe the sights around the lawn.

Yesterday was my "big trip" of the week to Coon Valley. It already commented on how surreal it was to have started this blog on account of Sand County Almanac and now be living in WI...now it's getting even weirder writing about the same places Leopold wrote articles about. The trip was great, and it was cool to see the terraced farms and "smart agriculture" that began way ahead of its time.
