Trade shows can prepare any student for life because they are all about competition. The goal at a trade show is to outdo the other similar companies and get all of the potential clients to hire your company for the products and services you supply. Here are the things you need to learn about success in this endeavor.
When you exhibiting at a trade show, it is important to use every weapon available to get potential clients to notice you, and at the center of your efforts will be your exhibition stand. It needs to be memorable, attractive and flat out rocking so that anyone who sees it, hears it or hears about it, wants to come by and meet you. Here are some tips to create a stand that does this for you.
When designing your booth make sure you have two things firmly in mind:
- What image of your company you want to portray: Do you sell products that are used in serious situations? Your stand needs to reflect this by exhibiting a strong and stable appearance. Do you sell fun products? Then this gives you an indication of how you will want to design and operate your exhibition stand. Your stand needs to be an extension of your company, its core values and market positioning.
- What is the theme of the trade show and who is going to attend: Is the trade show about new innovations or products in your industry? You might want to pick a theme for your stand that is forward thinking and even innovative. Are the attendees usually the top brass from their companies? You will want to make sure that your stand has a seating area where you can cut deals and have quiet when needed.
Getting these two elements right allows you to stay on track and to weigh any creative ideas against.
Your exhibition stand can take on almost any design from traditional, to sleek, to high tech but a few things need to be adhered to no matter the theme:
- Consider hiring an exhibition stand: You do not have to spend tons of time and money on the construction an exhibition stand for it to be great. You can hire exhibition stands, that come complete with whatever graphics and other features you would like. This allows you to focus on the little details rather than design and construction, saving you lots of time and headaches.
- Pay attention to the little things: When you get your stand it will look great, and be sure that you keep it neat and clean. You may have a lot of traffic during the trade show, but that is no excuse for loose material or wires all over the place and scuffed up edges. These things detract from your company’s image and from your overall presentation. So take the extra time to spot paint and re-attach any loose material firmly to the stand. Similarly, if your company is serving product samples or snacks, make sure that you put someone in charge of refilling them. Attendees feel cheated if they are inviting to your stand with the offer of a freebie and it is not there. No one will ask you for it, they will just write you off.
- Everyone at your stand needs to be trained: This does not mean that everyone needs to be a salesperson (although this is the smartest approach), it means that everyone needs the basics of customer relations and how to direct anyone with a question to the right person. Attendees will not know who is who at your stand, so most will approach the wrong person with an important question. Everyone on your team needs to know who to redirect these people to, and quickly.
- Never argue with your team members on the exhibition floor: There will be a lot of stress at times with more impatient potential customers than team members to accommodate them. The chance of someone getting frustrated and wanting to lash out at someone who may be slacking off a bit, will be tempting. But this needs to be avoided, because it will make your organization look unprofessional. Calmly take a team member who is not performing outside the exhibition hall or to some back area and then have a conversation about performance. Perhaps the person is exhausted and needs to go home for the day. Better to lose one person on a busy day than to have that person ruin great sales opportunities for the company.
So there you have it, the lessons necessary to become successful at a trade show. Use these tips if you enter the industry and will go a long way to making you a success.
In a word facing the daunting problem of global warming and climate change, sustainability
Sustainability is a broad discipline covering multiple areas but within business has strategy at it’s heart moving on from the Triple Bottom line of the 90’s, Sustainability aims to not only serve to promote the survival of the business but to be an integral contributor to society through active relationships with stakeholders. It seeks to find how companies might live in harmony with the external environment to promote corporate survival and for there to be a balance with ecology.
Protecting our environment is now critical for companies if we are to maintain our standard of living as a species although environment is not the only aspect of sustainability studies. Sociological aspects are also taken into account, with future business leaders learning about to topic studying business ethics as a means to make better, more informed decisions in the future which have a solid foundation.
Business leaders now just don’t understand ethics, this is clear when you see many business practices and the corruption which is endemic in many businesses.
Many of the world’s problems are rooted in social problems from alcoholism to the digital divide, these problems all have a social component. Many believe that with a strong background in sustainability the future business leaders of the world will be able to solve many of these problems. We now live in a throw away culture where products become obsolete in weeks and we waste a huge amount of resources on packaging, if you truly want to change the world you need to learn about sustainability.
The United Nations seeks to end hunger and poverty, improve education and healthcare, achieve gender equality, build sustainable growth and tackle climate change. Through studying sustainability you will be able to contribute to achieving thee great worldwide goals by working with likeminded people on the problem and through studying the problem you will be better able to come up with solutions by understanding it.

While the majority of students dread the idea of having to write essays, reports, theses, research papers, and other academic assignments, especially if they don’t feel like they have a special talent for it, they rarely realize that good writing will benefit them in other ways. Moreover, one of the best ways to develop the said skills is to tackle complex writing assignments, such as essays. And if you think that future writers, academics, and journalists are the only ones that will profit from knowing their way around a sentence, you would be mistaken.
Whether you are studying to become a businessman, an engineer, or something else entirely, your ability to write my paper is will do you a world of good. Essay writing is not just there to test your knowledge and make your life miserable, but to help you hone your writing chops, which you will then use later in life. Here are three ways writing essays and other academic papers will help you in real life.
- Writing Improves Communication Skills
The very nature of writing requires you to choose your words carefully, especially when you are writing an academic paper. You need to adopt a different style and expand your vocabulary, so that you are able to articulate your ideas, thoughts, and complex concepts in your papers. Gradually, you will also notice that some of the vocabulary and phrasing will spill over into your speech, making you more eloquent and articulate.
For example, if work your way up and become a manager of some company, your clients and partners will judge you based on your communication skills as well, and seeing as a lot of communication nowadays goes on in written form through emails, texts, and social media, being able to say what you want to say in a concise and clear way is imperative. So, regardless of what sort of work you are doing, good communication skills are a must. And, you can also reap the benefits of those same skills in your personal life.
- Writing Unleashes Your Creativity
Just like you would jog or go to the gym to keep yourself in shape, you should also take the opportunity to write, so that you can improve the way your mind works. You see, writing, especially on a challenging subject, will activate different areas of your brain and activate various cognitive processes. It’s one of the way of unlocking your creative capacities, and it can even act a prevention against Alzheimer’s, and other mental illnesses.
Once you tap into your brain’s creative potential, you will also find that a lot of great ideas will appear, seemingly out of nowhere. Once that happens, you should develop a habit of writing them down, otherwise you’re going to forget about them. It’s seems like an archaic concept, but just consider for a moment the amount of information our brains process on a daily basis. Better yet, just think about how much of that information we forget every day. You don’t want your precious ideas to end up the same way.
- Writing Will Help You Understand Yourself Better
One of the best ways you can reflect on your thoughts and emotions is to write. It can be as simple as keeping a journal, or running your own personal blog. The main idea is to put things into perspective and clear your head from everything that is troubling you. And sometimes, you will simply need to vent. More often than not, it’s easier to write down everything that is causing your grief on paper than to talk to someone about it.
Once you clear your mind through writing, you will have nothing holding you back emotionally or intellectually, which means you will be able to make the most out of your personal and professional life. Also, writing fiction can help us view things from a different angle, and put ourselves in other people’s shoes. That way, we can analyze matters more objectively, and with a greater understanding of other people’s points of view.
Keep all these things in mind when you are given to write an essay. There are plenty of benefits you can receive from it, not just a good grade. Even if it seems difficult now, it can improve your life significantly, no matter which path you decide to follow.
Being a college student can be overwhelming at times. You need to have a strong sense of independence, be prepared to meet lots of new people, and be ready to present in front of large crowds. Not every person feels totally natural in this type of environment, and maybe even feels like they lack the confidence to put themselves out there. If you are a little bit shy, or introverted, you can always try to learn new ways to open yourself up. A great way to test your social boundaries is to try acting classes! One of the reasons why college is so amazing, is because you have so many opportunities there to grow and learn more about yourself. Don’t stop yourself from reaching your true potential because of fear. Acting classes can be an amazing way to grow your self-confidence and enjoy every college moment to its fullest. Still a skeptic? We asked the performance arts specialists at Polish your Passion for their expert opinion. Here are 7 reasons why they think acting classes can change your life:
Safe environment: Worried about someone judging you? You can feel safe and assured in an acting class to be as wild, or as tame as you want. Everyone there is looking to explore their boundaries, you can feel free to get as weird as you want – you might learn that you aren’t so different from everyone else
Raise your voice: Getting loud and vocal might seem like a strange benefit, but for people who are shy and introverted the thought to scream out can be pretty daunting. Acting requires you to take on different roles and characters, and in order to bring those characters to life you need to embody their emotions. If a character is in a rage, you need to scream out to match. For those who are soft spoken, this exercise can build awareness about using volume efficiently. You need to command attention from people when you speak, you can’t be afraid to use your voice.
Stress Relief: Big exam coming up? Fight with a friend? There are countless reasons why you might need to blow off a little steam. In an acting class, you can jump into a character and explore your emotions. Maybe you’ll gravitate to a character that grieves, allowing you to really cry. You can use this opportunity to really get in touch with how you’re feeling and express it.
Meet new people: Joining an acting class can expose you to totally new people! You’re already interested in trying the same activity – it’s the perfect ice breaker to start talking with someone. Acting classes put a heavy emphasis on breaking down awkwardness between people. You will be pushed to socialize and interact with strangers – but in a fun and open way.
Body Language: Acting can help you brush up on your body language skills. No more walking with your head down, or avoiding eye contact. You will be encouraged to stand tall and engage people with your body. You might do an activity where you sit in a circle and can only communicate with your eyes. It might feel weird at first, but it will teach you to feel comfortable looking at someone’s face – accepting a stare and sending one back.
Public Speaking: You might take on Hamlets soliloquy and be on the stage all by yourself. This will be the ultimate test for a shy person who doesn’t like to speak in front of a crowd. You can use acting classes to perform in front of an audience of friends who won’t judge you for your mistakes. Practice ultimately does make perfect! Use acting classes as an opportunity to build your confidence and nail your future presentations.
Have fun: One of the best reasons to try acting lessons is to have fun. Who knows, acting lessons might end up being something you are really passionate about! You can learn a new skill, and boost your self-esteem, simply because you know you challenged yourself.
College is the perfect place to open yourself up and take chances. With a few acting classes, you can gain the confidence and self-esteem to take on new challenges. If you are still a little too shy to go into an acting class, you can start with some acting lessons online. Once you feel more comfortable, work your way over to an acting studio. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
If you are thinking about taking a college course you need to plan to make sure you make the right choices. Of course, you can change from one course to another but that is not the best options. It’s far better to settle on the right course for you initially. This way you can make sure that you concentrate all of your efforts on studying, and gaining your qualification, rather than on thinking about making changes.
It does not matter whether you are considering college for the first time, or you are looking at gaining additional qualifications so you can change career, there are some things which potential students all need to consider when planning for college.
Which college is right for you?
It’s never too early to start considering which college you should attend. Your choice could involve several factors. One of these factors will always be the availability of the course you want to take. You also need to take a look at things such as the reputation of the college, where it’s located, what its previous results look like and what wider activities are available.
For some potential students online study with providers such as Upskilled may be the best option. If you study online you have the flexibility of being able to shape your study around your life. This is especially useful if you are working and you want to study to gain an additional qualification.
How are you going to finance you study?
No matter what college option you choose you need to figure out how you are going to pay for your course of study. Do not forget that if you attend a traditional college, as opposed to studying online, you may also have to pay for accommodation and/or travel costs. This is why studying online can turn out to be the most financially viable option.
There are options available for you to potentially gain financial assistance with the cost of your study. If you receive a loan to help with your study then you obviously need to factor in what this is going to mean for you, when it comes to paying it back.
What does the future hold?
Planning your college career is not just about planning for those years when you will actually be studying; you also have to take into account the years following college. This is why it’s generally a good idea to know what sort of career you want to have, so that you can shape your study around gaining the qualifications you need. You do not want to choose a field of study simply because it sounds like fun and then find out that you do not have access to the career options you want with that qualification. You should always choose your college course with an eye on the future.
Deciding on your options for college study is very important and we have taken you through just three of the important aspects that need to feature. One of the most important things to remember is that you should never rush the decision; always give yourself plenty of time.
